You’ll forget you’re wearing them comfortable Bluetooth Headphones from Jaybird.Have you ever stopped your workout right in the middle because you just could not stand your ear buds always popping out with every move you make?
Or maybe you did finish your workout, but you were unwillingly yanked out of the “zone” and didn’t feel as good as you would have if the ear buds had stayed in?
Well, look no further. Jaybird has ear buds that will revolutionize your workout!
Let us be fair and clearly state here that these extremely comfortable headphones are not just for athletes; they are fantastic for anyone who enjoys listening to music and such without the hassle of long annoying cables and/or ear buds that would not just stay in. But since these headphones were designed specifically to survive the rigors of your workouts and extreme sports, hence the name Jaybird X2 Sport Wireless Bluetooth Headphones, we are going to be reviewing from an athletic point of view.
When it comes to workout headphones, some of the most important factors are weight, fit, sweat-proof-ness, battery-life, sound quality…and so much more. So here goes the specs for Jaybbird X2.
Sound Quality of JaybbirdSound quality is an individual perception.
If you are a professional musician and use supreme headphones like Bose or if you expect these buds to have great bass, then perhaps these headphones are not for you. But if you are like me, just someone who wants good music to add fun and motivation to your workout, then the sound quality of these headphones is great.
I mean, they sound fine for what they are—Bluetooth workout headphones. There is no active noise cancellation on these X2s, but you won’t hear any noise from cord movements.
In fact, their noise isolation is very good which is actually the very reason I don’t wear them during my city-runs; I can barely hear background noise with these on!
About Jaybbird's FitWe all know this. Wearing comfortable ear buds that stay in place through rigorous movements is sometimes what makes or breaks a workout.
Speaking from my personal experience, these X2s are the most comfortable workout headphones I have ever tried.
They come with three different-sized silicone ear tips, foam ear tips and Secure-Fit ear fins that are designed to create a comfortable and personalized fit and tight seal. These ear fins, or “wings” as I like to call them because they really do give you freedom to move around however you want, securely keep your buds firmly in place during your activities. The unique design provides just the right amount of pressure and angle to lock them in place. If you want a more secure fit and better sound quality, then I’d recommend wearing them over the top of your ears, as opposed to regular ear bud style. If you do choose over-the-ear style, the cord management clips will come in handy. The cord, from ear bud to ear bud, is a little over 25” and it can bounce around unless you shorten it with the clips so that the cord sits against the back of your skull/neck. It may take a few tries to adjust the length of the cord and the angle of your ear buds with the “wings” attached to get the perfect fit, but once you get it, you don’t have to play with it anymore and you will forget you are wearing them because they are so snug.
Sweat-proof-nessIf you are a prolific sweater like me, gadgets during a workout can be a little tricky. I have bid farewell to quite a few gadgets that claim to be sweat-proof. Some of them didn’t die, but they would have sporadic failures because the inside battery compartment had rusted due to the sweat. Many workout gadgets are useful (and not to mention cool!) but they can also be quite pricey. And you do not want to break them on your first workout because of your sweat. Well, sweat no more! (No, I don’t mean “do not perspire”, I mean “do not worry”!) The X2s are extremely sweat-proof. I, the notorious gadget breaker, have used these headphones for over 4 years, and I have not yet had any trouble with sweat. And I wear them over-the-ear style which means the cord with the remote sits against my neck (where I sweat profusely.) Make no mistake. These are extremely sweat-proof, but they are not water-resistant so don’t go swimming or take a shower with them on! If for some reason they stop working, you can always contact Jaybird because there is a lifetime guarantee against sweat.
Battery LifeOne of the things I love about these ear buds is their battery life. Its play time is actually 6~8 hours, as advertised and 250 hours of standby time. The only thing that I wish it had is battery alert to let you know how low your battery is. It does greet you with a low battery warning and a red light on the side of your ear bud indicating that your battery has only little battery left, but you are not given any percentage. Charging is super simple; it uses micro-USB. Simply open one side of the ear but to reveal a charging port. Your battery goes from 0% to 100% within 2.5 hours.
Remote ControlThe X2s have an inline remote control so you can do all the basic controls on your music such as play, stop, next, and back at a touch of a button without looking. The X2s also come with a built-in microphone that works pretty well. The call quality is clear, so they work well with a person whose work involves phone meetings. So you see? They’re not just for athletes.
Overall, I would say that these ear buds are some of the greatest and most comfortable workout headphones out on the market now. And this is coming from a triathlete with over 150km of running distance and 350km of biking a month. Go try them out! You won’t regret it!
